Not with this blog THANK GOD! But with another wordpress blog I installed on a different site.
I think I jumped versions too dramatically for the one click fantastico update to work properly. This other blog was running a much older version of wordpress, something like 2.1 something… I had upgraded two blogs perfectly ok but when I came upon the 3rd one, it was a nightmare.
It was probably a user/operator error and I must say that I should have taken care of the problem before it got to this point…or just left it alone. The reason I hadn’t been upgrading that blog is because I had tweaked that theme big time and added in a lot of plugins that weren’t compatible with the newer versions of wordpress. I honestly did not know what all I had done with the blog itself with all the adjustments I had made a very long time ago so there was no “oh i need to save this” or a “I can’t copy over that file” sort of thing.
I get in these deleting moods sometimes, maybe because I get fed up with how things are and want to start fresh again. So I just tried to one click upgrade with fantastico, then encountered some errors. Being totally fed up with trying to understand the whole wordpress world, I just opted to try a manual install.
I’ve done them before and had success with manually upgrading an existing blog but it still would take me hours to get things back to stability and working order…at least to my liking. So off I went, followed the instructions to upgrade…and bam! I can’t connect to database at all. I put in what I thought is the correct info and nothing has worked.
I delete and try it over again, trying to “figure out” what is the problem. Meanwhile my blog is totally gone other than backups which…I feel very…I dunno how to say it…just not into reinstalling or figuring out how to do it.
This post is probably of no help to anyone other than reading a rant and that’s because I’m in rant mood. I’d love to offer you, the reader, some helpful tips and suggestions on how to successfully upgrade your existing wordpress blog but I have absolutely NOTHING.
unno:
I haven’t felt like writing much lately, it’s why my blog haven’t been updated in months here. Not very inspired I guess.
I just wiped out the entire blog directory on the other website and did a full clean install. I have no idea how to link up my database as I’m not sure what the password is anymore and the info I had from whatever previous config file did not seem to work…I’d even changed my password for my user in phpmyadmin but that didn’t seem to help either.
Oh well… I give up… I hadn’t been feeling that site anyway and with business in general. Perhaps it’s just my own manifestation of wanting to get rid of it and now it seems I’ve started with that site’s blog. Sad really…it’s like the beginning of the end. :comfort:
