The infamous “I told you so” and “you should have listened to me” lines

So I have this sinus infection it seems and today is day 2 of taking antibiotics for it. Actually my 2nd dose isn’t until another hour and a half yet of Avelox but I’m anxious to take the next dose. I woke up this morning……errr…who am I kidding…this afternoon and felt a tiny bit better than the previous morning/afternoon.

I think so far, the stuff is helping. I noticed last night that the stuff I was coughing up and blowing out of my nose wasn’t as thick as before. And my coughing wasn’t as tight sounding. Upon waking, my first thoughts were that I felt a bit better. But as most people know, symptoms worsen when you first wake up because all that gunk has been sitting still all night long in your body.

So I talked to my parents today and they both asked me about my doctor visit and how I felt today. I know they mean well as with every person who’s ever said the phrase, “you should have listened to me” or “I told you so”.

I’m not exactly sure what saying that actually solves? I mean, they both said basically the same things…”I told you to go to the doctors sooner, you should have listened to me. But no, you didn’t want to go.” That’s right, I didn’t want to go see a doctor because I thought my own body was capable of fighting off the germs on its own since I rarely got sick.

Yes, let me get right into my time machine here and go back and change the past. And if I have the ability to time travel, I think I would elect to go back to the time when the infectious germs first decided to leap onto me and I would have dodged them then and not mess with weeks of this horrible never ending gunk pileup. I mean, hell…if I could time travel, why not go all the way back to the moment right before when I was first conceived and inject some kind of super molecular compound that would potentially ward off any and all infectious diseases that may cross my path in my lifetime? :blink:

Going back 30+ years and going back to last week ends in the same conclusion……NOT POSSIBLE! Past is the past, what’s the point of saying…you should have done this or that? Except maybe bring up defensive feelings like the other person is saying that we’re incapable of handling our own lives and that we need to be dictated on what we “ought” to do. All things in due time. I wonder how many times in my own life did I say the same things to another person….hmmm? unno:

Perhaps 2008, I’ll be more mindful to keep things in the present tense, with myself and others. :comfort:
