Reflection on my recent starscapes painting project

I just got done with 5 intense nights of painting for my Cosmic Rooms. This was completed upstairs in the banquet, party, event area of a restaurant in Baltimore that’s down by the marina area. At over 800 sq ft of tray ceiling area I painted which took nearly 50 hours, I am just completely exhausted!

But I am happy with my rendition of the universe and the murals look amazing! I’m excited that more people will get the opportunity to see my artwork first hand and hopefully will lead to residual sales from party guests and those they tell about the hand-painted stars! There must be over 15,000 stars spread amongst the three tray ceilings!

I like projects, particularly small ones that I can finish with a sense of accomplishment. As tedious and hard as it is to hand paint each and every star on ceilings, there is an artistic flare to making it look dazzling and 3 dimensional and the finish results puts a smile on my face and others as well.

Most of the time, the average size bedroom will take one visit. I go in and get it done in one day. Sometimes when the project is a bit bigger and lingers on to several days as it was with this recent on at the restaurant, I find myself a bit attached to the artwork itself and the location where I painted.

It was nice to be left alone there at night time to paint. I got to paint in a room that overlooked a gorgeous skyline and had the opportunity to witness the morning sunrise with its many splendid colors over the harbor. I was able to relax and paint at my own pace while listening to music or audio recordings. The first two nights, I was listening to music and singing out loud, good thing others weren’t in the building! The acoustics were really good in those rooms and I sounded great Grin But I always think I sound great to me! :blushing: The last two nights, I started listening to the Wayne Dyer Hayhouse Radio shows I put on my mp3 player so it was nice to be inspired while creating art that will hopefully inspire others.

I think with any kind of artwork, the artist leaves their personality and artistry behind a bit. Even though I was tired of painting and wanted to finish what I started, it was bittersweet. I put a lot of me into my murals and spent 5 nights painting in that space. I will miss that gorgeous view from the windows and the surrealness of leaving at the sunrise down by the water. Crisp morning air, “good mornings” from the early dog walkers who lived in those expensive condos in that area, boats swaying gently in the water, the quietness of the early morning (at times I didn’t even hear the city noise), birds flying over the harbor…it was really nice.

When I left yesterday morning after I finished painting, I snapped some pictures of the area around me as I was leaving. I realized that the familiarity of that walk to my car and experience those things I wrote above will most likely never happen again in my life. I will never be there at that time in the morning since I’m basically nocturnal and don’t have a reason to be there again. It was just surreal how painting jobs happen almost overnight. Its like a mini adventure that surprises me when I least expect it. Attached to my art, it’s like I’m leaving a piece of me behind…. after the “high” of the project is over, I’m left with a feeling of “now what?”

Walking away, I contemplate on that thought and say to myself with a deep sigh…next.
