I heard this song so many years ago, an exbf had played it a few times for me in the past cuz he liked it a lot. Not that he listened to a lot of folksy type of music but I think with him being a guitar player, the guitar in this song really captivated him, as it did for me as well. It is such a beautifully sad song.
Lately, I’ve been contemplating my life and where I’d like to take it. It seems that letting life take its course isn’t making much movement in the direction…but then, maybe it’s suppose to be that way. Maybe life is just too fast lately…and need to be slowed down.
So I had this fogginess in my mind about this song. I couldn’t remember the name or who sang it or even the way the melody or lyrics went. All I could see were scenes of my past where I had heard the song and the only impression I had was that it made a reference to a box.
Not much to go by, I know… but I felt as though there was some message in the song for me. Bizarre things have been happening to me and I won’t go into it in this post but I just felt there was some significance to this particular song.
I tried hard to rack my brain but the info was just out of reach, like it was right on the other side of the fog and if I could just reach out far enough, I could grasp it and bring it into my perception. Then I had a thought, who else would know what I’m talking about than the person who introduced me to this song?!
So I did the only thing I could think of….that was to text msg my exbf to ask him. He’s like a human jukebox to me and I had a feeling he would know what I was talking about. Ironically, we just started having contact again this past week after so many years. Not so much that it was an ex but that it was like there was a message I needed to hear that could only have come through him. Another post, another time…
My ex whose name was also Jim said that it sounds like “Time in a Bottle” by Jim Croce was the song I may be thinking about based on my “box” reference and that it was folksy sounding that he played for me years ago. He’s played hundreds of songs for me, maybe thousands but he was right again on this one. After some searching, I found a nice version over at imeem. Anyway, enjoy this song, hopefully it embedded properly here.

The embedded version only play 30 second clips of the song but there’s a link for the entire song next to the player…the only thing is that I can’t get imeem to work in firefox. I’ve downloaded the latest whatever it asked for but no luck, only in internet explorer…so if you’re having trouble listening, just use IE. :good:
